Wedding cake trends to impress!

The proof is in the icing!

Just one little bite… We all know how dangerous it can be to take one bite of a scrumptious piece of delectable chocolate cake be

cause it never ends with “just one bite.” However, when thinking about wedding cakes, the proof is in the icing! Wedding cake trends are something g of creative integrity as the wedding cake serves as putting your personal stamp on your reception. You and your bride or groom can, through the icing and decorations on your wedding cake, express what you stand for! And with these wedding cake trends, you’ll never go wrong!

Metallic cakes

Metallic is big for everything from stationary to reception table flatware and cakes are no exception. They can adapt to pretty much any style: Delicate embroidery in gold feels opulent while geometric shapes create a fresh, modern feel. If an entire tier is too much glitz for you, consider adding a little sparkle. Fine edible glitter can give a decorative sheen to your cake without overpowering the whole design.

Painted wedding cakes

Take a cue from what many invitation designers are doing and ask your cake baker to get a little artsy with your cake design. Think of marbleized, stained glass or even Monet-inspired wedding cake designs. Pair those hand-painted layers or even simple flower accents. For a painted cake design that’s very intricate, keep the tiers simple and stick to all one shape.

Rose wedding cake

The rosette look, created with textural sugar roses, adds unique dimensions without skimping on elegance. Remember though, to stick to white, ivory or very subtle blush rosettes.

Ruffled wedding cakes

For an utterly elegant confection, choose the subtle flair or sugar ruffles. The look is light, airy and needs very little added detail. Finish it off with fresh flowers in between each tier or a few sugar flowers on top.

Illustration wedding cakes

Did you know you can really have anything you want painted onto your cake? Pick anything you like, from the design on your invites to the quote from your first-dance song, or even your wedding motif, like a bicycle, oak tree or anemone flowers to showcase on your cake tiers. First, the cake gets covered in fondant and then the design is hand-painted on the cake. This cake style is such a fun way to personalize your confection.

Forest wedding cake

Nature-inspired designs are perfect for country or barn weddings. These cakes channel just the right amount of simplicity and rustic-ness. Create gum paste twigs and berries to nestle in with gorgeous sugar flowers or make a tree trunk cake for a whimsical celebration. You can even go quirky and adorm your design with hand-crafted sugar foliage!
