Forest Fantasy

Create a soft, romantic setting for your special day with this woodland-inspired wedding theme. It’s magical!

For girls who grew up on fairy tales, forest settings have always been romantically appealing, so it’s no surprise that brides are turning to woodland themes to create a dreamy feeling for their own wedding day. “Woodland themes are soft, floaty and non-traditional. They’re beautiful too, especially in spring when new buds are blooming and there is fresh colour everywhere.”

Woodland wedding

  1. Choose a calm but captivating colour scheme. Combine shades of blue, yellow and green, and incorporate natural influences such as wood to ensure a genuine feel.

  2. Green is obviously a key colour for a woodland theme – experiment with it until you find a shade that works best for you. Mix warm and cool colours together for balance.

  3. Keep your décor simple but special (it will help cut costs). Crystal glasses add an expensive flair to raw wooden tables, while soft chiffon runners create a feeling of water-like movement. Fill glasses with coloured bubbly to inspire a festive feeling and help pave the way for spontaneous toasts.

  4. Stationary details have become increasingly important at weddings. A beautiful watercolour design instantly sets the tone for a pretty, romantic occasion. Use good quality paper when printing so that your stationary not only looks amazing, but feels it too. Make sure you carry your stationary theme through to other decorative details (such as name cards and menus) for a cohesive look.

  5. Cakes are for eating, so don’t get carried away with too many decorative details. A delicious cake, simply iced, is ideal for a woodland theme. Add a few flowers to finish the look (naked cakes have huge appeal)

  6. Feed your guests food that is wholesome and full of flavor, and

that has been gorgeously styled. Tell your caterers about your chosen colour palette so that they can style their food accordingly for the best results.

  1. No woodland or forest-themed event is complete without fresh flowers. Use lots of greenery as a base for table displays and bouquets (another tip to help keep costs under control). Group similar greens together and drape long strands across your tables with flowers on top. It looks luxurious, but is not expensive. Vines work well too. Pick wild flowers within your colour palette, if you can. Alternatively, arrange fresh cut blooms in simple vases along the table. Don’t be scared to experiment – just remember to keep the flowers loose and free-flowing.

  2. When it comes to bridal fashion, you don’t have to be bound by convention. For this theme, you can choose a light grey wedding dress with a stunning, exposed back and layers of tulle to create a romantic, playful feel. The bridesmaid’s outfits can be less traditional too; instead of a boob tube dress, which is popular with brides, you can choose a more elegant design with a low front and sheer tulle back.

  3. Finally, just have fun and play when styling your wedding day!
